Hello, I'm Deirdre, webmaster and quest manager of SneezyMUD. I'm only recently foraying into socializing with maintainers of other MUDs and hoping to get fresh perspective and maybe some new e-pals with similar interests. See my work here: http://www.sneezymud.com |

One of our bigger projects has been to close up some of our economy and make use of previously puzzling and useless commodities that existed only to drain the city coffers and take up inventory space. Now repair shops use the commodities to repair equipment and most recently, players must use them to make repairs. The floodgates of drama have opened up and the whine has come strutting out in full force. Players predictably react as if we intend to ruin them and care nothing for their monetary predicament. (Nevermind that the game has seen a steady inflation of player wealth and power and it is becoming dangerously unbalanced) It is times like this that it is most frustrating to volunteer my time for any kind of organization. I know to expect the us-vs-them mentality, but of course, a paycheck makes the medicine go down so much more easily. Giving my time and money with no return for a group of individuals who are somehow convinced I have the singular purpose of ruining their fun seems markedly less palatable. I truly understand that one cannot make everyone happy all the time, but it seems backwards that I can run a quest and 100% of the time expect to get some ridiculous complaint about every single one. Apparently the silver platter wasn't shiny enough. It is times like these I am grateful I have stupidly taken on two roles. One is much less player-facing and lets me have a little fun without having to listen to griping. If it were not for these little miniature vacations I take, I don't think I would be able to last. I am too sensitive, so the bitching actually gets to me now and then. Obviously, this is my problem, but whose problem it is changes nothing when I'm feeling demoralized. Time to relaxitate and redesign some ugly things. | ||

Stat Counter Track your site usage the lazy way. I'm so not interested in setting up my own analytics tools, and this gives real-time information Google Analytics does not. ( Posted by: Dd on 12/07/07 ) |

Vertical Response A not-exorbitant service for spam-free mass emailing (i.e., newsletters). I used to use Constant Contact until they went $15/month on me. This service charges per email sent, which works out to a lot cheaper for my relatively small subscribership. ( Posted by: Dd on 12/07/07 ) |
