I started mudding on Eltanin mud when I was an undergrad and the guys running it were in the next building. After six months of that, I saw the announcement of DIKU Gamma 0.0 being released and grabbed it, churned out half a dozen new areas, a friend of mine coded multiclassing, and we opened SlothMUD. That was 1992. We kept running it for a few years but eventually got tired of all the player complaints and shut it down. Luckily for the players, someone had stolen a copy at some point and immediately started it up again. In around 2000 or so I noticed it and got involved again; I've been working on it ever since. I'm a physicist by education who now does physics (mostly computational fluid mechanics, which these days like all well-understood physics is considered engineering) for oil and gas pipeline simulation. |
